President Donald Trump and Senate Democrats have agreed to a deal but a last-minute objection prevented it from coming to a vote on Thursday night.

The 71-29 vote came a day after Senate Democrats and President Donald Trump struck a deal to attach two weeks of Homeland Security funding to five spending bills that will fund the Pentagon, State Department and many other agencies until Sept.

The Senate voted Friday to fund most of the government through the end of September while carving out a temporary extension for Homeland Security funding, giving Congress two weeks to debate new restrictions on federal immigration raids across the country.

While the Senate advanced a package of spending bills, the House won't be back in town to vote until late Monday.

DHS is funded on a short-term basis for just two weeks, a demand by Democrats as they insist on changes to rein in ICE and Customs and Border Protection after two high-profile killings of American citizens in Minneapolis by immigration agents.
